It’s intended as a guideline to enable us to:

release open data in a planned, ethical, scalable way

leverage the value of data for the transport sector and NZ Inc, while protecting people’s privacy, security and sovereignty.

It can’t cover every eventuality. If you have any questions, concerns about existing open data, or are in any doubt about whether to publish, please email opendata@nzta.govt.nz.

If you’re intending to publish open data, please also contact the open data team – we’ll help guide you through all the relevant processes etc.

Important note: when designing or procuring a new dataset, please consult the open data team at the very beginning of your process – this helps ensure any future open data requirements are catered for with minimum disruption or rework further down the line.
