NZ Government is a signatory to the International Open Data Charter and New Zealand Data and Information Management principles, which follow from the (NZ) Declaration on Open and Transparent Government. Additionally, the Transport Evidence Base Strategy highlights improved access to data – and open data – as a key priority.

What we did (high-level) Motor vehicle registrations dashboard and open data update We added additional data to the motor vehicle registrations dashboard and open data, to enable historic and year-to-date reporting. https://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/how-the-motor-vehicle-register-affects-you/motor-vehicle-registrations-dashboard-and-open-data

Additional quarter-hourly traffic count open data We released additional quarter-hourly traffic count open data, covering October – December 2020. https://opendata-nzta.opendata.arcgis.com/datasets/tms-traffic-quarter-hourly-oct-to-dec-2020/about

Updated open data framework and toolkit We updated and released our open data framework and toolkit. They lay out how we think about, and treat, our open data, including prioritisation and developing accompanying / supporting documentation and metadata. Second open data webinar We recorded and released our second video about Waka Kotahi open data. This time, we looked at the forecasted and actual impacts of COVID-19 on NZ employment and economy. DataHack v1.0 Due to covid alert levels, we moved our ‘DataHack v1.0’ event into July. It’s a pilot internal day-long collaborative exercise amongst a mixture of internal data, analytics, research and applied design people. Stay tuned for details in our July update.
