New Zealand Geotechnical Database

The New Zealand Geotechnical Database (NZGD) facilitates sharing of geotechnical information collected by practicing professionals. The information provides factual information concerning ground performance and is useful for informing planning and analysis of building constructions, and hazard resilience requirements.

The data is specifically important in providing quality information to support building control processes and regulations. Originally formed following the Canterbury earthquakes, with the aim to expedite post-earthquake remediation. The dataset has now been extended to cover the entirety of New Zealand. The NZGD is currently under the stewardship of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
